00:00:00.541 --> 00:00:02.463
Welcome back to the show.

00:00:02.463 --> 00:00:13.960
I'm so honored that you've been listening to our recap this week of the Eureka County Sheriff's Department Leadership Conference up in Nevada.

00:00:13.960 --> 00:00:30.071
It was a phenomenal week and I'm so appreciative of so many people that I met and fellowshiped with during that time that I met and fellowshiped with during that time and I'm hoping that you've listened to sort of the recaps we did this week.

00:00:30.071 --> 00:00:31.092
Each day of the week.

00:00:31.092 --> 00:00:38.158
We sort of broke down each day so if you weren't there, you got some semblance of what we got to experience.

00:00:38.158 --> 00:00:51.731
Of course, you never can portray that in audio format like you could be in there, but I certainly hope it helped you and encouraged you and maybe you will consider in joining us there in 2025 and beyond.

00:00:52.372 --> 00:01:11.013
But the day four recap is what this podcast is about and I taught day four and so it didn't make a lot of sense for me to do the recap and I'm so grateful for my friend John Kelly and Roland Klee, who got back to Florida and recorded this recap and sent this over for you.

00:01:11.013 --> 00:01:14.790
These guys, if you don't know them, you need to get to know them.

00:01:14.790 --> 00:01:16.760
We've interviewed them both on the podcast.

00:01:16.760 --> 00:01:24.962
Of course, john Kelly and both Roland have their own websites and they do training and consulting and it's just incredible stuff, folks.

00:01:24.962 --> 00:01:26.123
I mean it's such a stuff, folks.

00:01:26.123 --> 00:01:31.567
I mean it's such a blessing to get to know men like this that are making such a huge impact.

00:01:31.567 --> 00:01:34.311
And they, of course, blessed me by sending this over.

00:01:34.311 --> 00:01:41.277
They were very kind, they didn't have to be, but I'm certainly appreciative of them and I'm appreciative of you for listening.

00:01:48.599 --> 00:01:49.120
Thank you for listening.

00:01:49.120 --> 00:01:49.581
Here's day four recap.

00:01:49.581 --> 00:01:55.900
Welcome to Courageous Leadership with Travis Yates, where leaders find the insights, advice and encouragement they need to lead courageously.

00:01:58.164 --> 00:02:11.516
Hey folks, john Kelly here with Roland Clee helping out our dear friend Travis Yates on a summary of our 2024 Eureka Leadership Summit.

00:02:11.516 --> 00:02:17.306
Hey man, nice that we're back home, right, it was a hell of a trip getting out there.

00:02:17.306 --> 00:02:19.944
It was amazing yeah, it was an amazing trip.

00:02:19.944 --> 00:02:30.629
And, Roland, your thoughts on the guy who I guess he batted cleanup right On the fourth day, Mr Travis Yates?

00:02:31.419 --> 00:02:38.072
Yeah, he displayed greatness, I'd say he just really gave everything, left everything on the field.

00:02:38.072 --> 00:02:45.229
It was a wonderful presentation about leadership and you know it was what the conference was all about.

00:02:45.229 --> 00:02:49.852
It's like everything built up to what he eventually said.

00:02:49.852 --> 00:02:52.668
And you and I are no stranger to him.

00:02:52.668 --> 00:02:59.211
Both of us have been through his book, Both of us have seen him on video, seen him speak in person before.

00:02:59.211 --> 00:03:01.868
But this time was really something special, Don't you agree?

00:03:02.561 --> 00:03:04.307
I like the way he tied everything in.

00:03:04.307 --> 00:03:44.031
You know, sometimes you have somebody batting cleanup and they don't do a good job of really summarizing the event, and I thought that there were portions of his presentation that highlighted that Randy Sutton and Bob Bemis, that highlighted Tom Rizzo and myself and Wayne Ivey and he put his, really his classic touch on leadership and really what that means to the individual and how that translates to the organization.

00:03:44.031 --> 00:03:46.538
I just I thought it was well done.

00:03:46.538 --> 00:03:47.600
How that translates to the organization.

00:03:47.600 --> 00:03:48.402
Um, I just I thought it was well done.

00:03:48.402 --> 00:03:54.414
And, um, I do take issue with his assessment that I do not have any survival skills out there in the wilderness.

00:03:55.479 --> 00:03:56.102
Uh, I defended you.

00:03:56.102 --> 00:03:59.562
I don't know, you didn't defend me too loudly, my friend.

00:03:59.915 --> 00:04:03.562
I'll just say this I uh uh naked and afraid I I.

00:04:03.703 --> 00:04:17.192
I could probably last about five minutes, uh, but with that being said, man, special thanks right to Jesse Watts and Tyler Tyler Thomas and Jesse Watts.

00:04:19.074 --> 00:04:21.521
What an amazing job that they and their staff right.

00:04:21.521 --> 00:04:24.088
We got to spend time with their staff on a daily basis.

00:04:24.088 --> 00:04:31.521
Man, what a great group of men and women out there, out there in God's country, doing some amazing things.

00:04:32.696 --> 00:04:34.624
I'll leave you for the final word, my friend.

00:04:35.517 --> 00:04:46.697
Yeah, I never saw firsthand about bringing law enforcement to such a large area with such a small staff and these guys.

00:04:46.697 --> 00:04:56.654
They were enforcing an area the size of the state of Connecticut with about 14 deputies and doing that in shift.

00:04:56.654 --> 00:05:03.908
So it really opened my eyes to it, just gave me new thoughts about our concepts of policing.

00:05:03.908 --> 00:05:11.401
But as far as leadership, you have to have different kind of leadership in that setting.

00:05:11.401 --> 00:05:23.916
So, getting to see folks from, we had some folks from Churchill County, some folks from Elko and all of these places very sparsely populated, but they still have.

00:05:23.916 --> 00:05:24.821
They still have crime.

00:05:24.821 --> 00:05:25.764
They still have officer-involved shootings.

00:05:25.764 --> 00:05:26.228
They still have crime.

00:05:26.228 --> 00:05:27.091
They still have officer-involved shootings.

00:05:27.091 --> 00:05:27.814
They still have unattended deaths.

00:05:27.814 --> 00:05:29.060
They still have traffic accidents.

00:05:29.060 --> 00:05:38.827
They have some very spectacular traffic accidents in certain cases and they have fields of policing that we've never had to consider in the state of Florida.

00:05:38.827 --> 00:05:44.887
So I just tip my hat to all those professionals that are out there doing the job in those areas.

00:05:45.355 --> 00:05:47.444
Next time you hear, do more with less.

00:05:47.444 --> 00:05:56.721
Think about those folks out there that are doing 10 times more than we ever thought with a staff of 25, right and the public loves them.

00:05:57.617 --> 00:06:07.726
They really stand up and say, hey, we're going to be there for the public, and the public's reciprocated that their trust in them.

00:06:08.694 --> 00:06:09.800
It was a wonderful trip.

00:06:09.800 --> 00:06:14.466
I would say for the listener keep your eyes open for 2025.

00:06:14.466 --> 00:06:25.500
The Eureka County Sheriff's Office Leadership Summit under the leadership of Jesse Watts and Tyler Thomas two good eggs, man and Roland.

00:06:25.500 --> 00:06:29.783
It was a great time seeing you out there and I'm looking forward to our next adventure.

00:06:29.783 --> 00:06:37.704
Travis Yates, my friend, we look to see you in the future and that is John Kelly and Roland Klee signing off.

00:06:37.704 --> 00:06:38.766
God bless, take care.

00:06:41.675 --> 00:06:44.584
